CL&P Crews Making Headway in Bethany

As of 2 p.m. today, 52 percent of town still without power.

Slowly but surely, and most of all, safely, power is being restored to Bethany. According to First Selectman Derrylyn Gorski, there are 3.5 crews currently working in Bethany. The half crew is working on Morris Road, which is partially in Woodbridge. Others are working at Munson, Litchfield, Valley and Carrington. According to Gorski, the crews are literally going pole-by-pole, there is so much damage in these areas.

“The west side of town has power,” she said, “but the east side has a lot more damage. Once these crews are done it will restore electricity to 600 residences.”

The trick is in making sure everything is done correctly so when the power is restored there aren’t any problems.

Gorski wanted to dispel a persistent rumor that CL&P is out of transformers.

“We checked with them,” she said, “and there are plenty of them in stock.”

The shelter at the Bethany Community School will remain open until most of town has power, but with 52 percent of town still without electricity, the need remains. The shelter is open from noon until 8 p.m. Also, the Jewish Community Center and Planet Fitness are still offering showers to residents without power.

Gorski also wanted to remind residents that the recycling center is remaining open every day through next week excluding Sunday and Labor Day. Bulky waste is being accepted, no appointment needed, however the town is asking that only storm-damaged articles be brought in.
