Commissioner to Talk Trash on Tuesday at Wisdom of Woodbridge Lecture
DEEP Commissioner is the nest speaker in the First Selectman's lecture series
Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Rob Klee will talk trash at the next Wisdom of Woodbridge lecture on Tuesday Nov. 17 at the JCC.
Klee, a Woodbridge resident, will deliver the second of five planned lectures curated by First Selectman Ellen Scalettar. Commissioner Klee’s talk is titled “Talking Trash: Recycling Revisited.” The Commissioner will discuss recycling trends in Woodbridge and state-wide initiatives.
The Woodbridge of Wisdom series of lectures will be delivered by Woodbridge residents who will discuss their exciting professions, unusual talents and expertise in various topics. At the first lecture, held at the Library, Southern Connecticut State University President Dr. Mary Papazian discussed “Embracing the Future: Southern Connecticut State University and the Changing Higher Education Landscape.”

“Tonight we are launching a series of lectures where residents will share their wisdom with us,” First Selectman Ellen Scalettar said in her introduction to the series and Dr. Papazian’s talk. “We are starting with five lectures over the next several months, although we could no doubt schedule such lectures daily for many years without running out of fascinating talks by Woodbridge residents.”
About 30 residents attended the lecture. Following the talk, audience members had a chance to ask questions and exchange in a discussion with Dr. Papazian.

Dr. Papazian discussed challenges facing higher education and how SCSU is facing them, including the dearth of college graduates, declining enrollments, retention issues, and the spiraling cost of higher education, education attainment gaps and more scrutiny at the federal level. She also discussed SCSU’s evolving campus, green initiatives, a focus on science, technology, engineering and math and SCSU’s community outreach and involvement.
The lectures are co-hosted by the JCC and the Woodbridge Town Library.
