Conservation Commission Continues Monthly Hikes

On Saturday Dec. 5 the Commission will lead a walk through the Fitzgerald Tract

The Conservation Commission invites you to its monthly guided hike on Saturday Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. at the Center Road ballfield (149 Center Road). The walk will take the blue trail to the Fitzgerald Tract and loop around the field using the blue and red trails.

Since October the Conservation Commission has been hosting monthly guided hikes. The first, led by Commission Chair Jason Morrill, was through the woods behind the Massaro Community Farm during the farm’s annual Family Fun Day.

The second hike was led by Commission member Frank DeLeo at the Bishop Estate trail loop. About 15 people, including First Selectman Ellen Scalettar, Commission Chair Morrill, Woodbridge Trail Master Mike Walter and residents of New Haven, Bethany and Orange, attended the walk on a warm November day.

The hikes are scheduled for the first weekend of the month and are intended to introduce residents to Woodbridge’s many miles of walking trails and open space.

“One of my goals has been to create and promote community events to bring residents together,” said First Selectman Scalettar. “I thank the Conservation Commission for volunteering their time to highlight one of the Town’s great resources and provide a healthy outdoor group activity.”
