DeLauro to Run for Reelection in 2012

Longtime Congressman tells Naugatuck Patch she will seek a 12th term in the district that includes New Haven, Waterbury and Naugatuck.

U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro has announced she will run for reelection to the 3rd Congressional District seat in 2012.

In an email to Naugatuck Patch on Monday, DeLauro spokesman Kaelan Richards confirmed the 20-year incumbent would seek a 12th term as the representative for the House of Representatives district, which stretches from the New Haven region to Naugatuck and Waterbury.

DeLauro’s statement , a motivational speaker from Naugatuck, announced he would run for the 3rd Congressional seat also.

“I welcome his candidacy and anyone else that might be interested in running,” DeLauro said in an email to Patch. “I will be working on getting the economy back on track here in Connecticut, and getting change in Washington.”

DeLauro was first elected to the seat in 1991. She has repeatedly won re-election in a majority Democratic district that mostly centers on New Haven County. , DeLauro has served on a Congressional committee overseeing education, health and employment.

Winsley is the second person from Naugatuck to run against DeLauro in two years. Jerry Labriola Jr., a former borough resident who practices law in Naugatuck, had run against DeLauro in 2010, however Labriola lost after only getting 34 percent of the vote.
