Derrylyn Gorski Wins Another Term as Bethany First Selectman (Updated)

Steve Thornquist and Donald Shea retain their positions on the board of selectmen.

The Democrats dominated in Bethany today and at the end of the day, when all 1,653 votes were tallied, Derry's Team remained in town hall for another term. Just moments before the winners were announced First Selectwoman Derrylyn Gorski (D)  said she had "no idea" where the numbers would fall. With 904 votes to Rosemary DeFilippo's (R) 702, Gorski retained her position, accompanied by Steve Thornquist (D) with 897 to Donald Shea's (R)  737.

Town Clerk Nancy McCarthy ran uncontested, and for Town Treasurer, Lawrence Eisner (D) tallied 877 votes to Russell Scovin's 730. David Forman (D) retained his position as tax collector by a wide margin with 998 votes to Catherine Geloso's (R)  623.

Of the three candidates running for the board of finance, Robert Brinton (R) totaled 939 and Aileen Magda followed with 863, beating Ben Rosenbloom (D)  by 13 votes.

Of the four candidates vying for three positions on the board of education, the order was as follows: Christopher Pittenger (D) 877, Adam T. Carrington (R) 822, Namita Wijesekera (D) 811 and Ronna Brier (R) 720. Also winning vacancies on the BOE was Vivian Shih, who collected 839 votes and Brian Laubstein with 758.

Elizabeth Thornquist (D) ran unopposed for board of assessment appeals.

Of the three candidates vying for the planning and zoning commission, Kim McClure Brinton  (R) totaled 990, Michael Calhoun (D) landed 955 followed by Lawrence Buono (R) with 709.

For zoning board of appeals, the order was as follows: Carol Goldberg (D) 831, Walter Briggs (R) 804, Salvatore Amadeo (R) 774 and Bradford Buchta (D) with 762.

The zoning board of appeals alternates tallied up in this order:  Margaret L. Foley (D) 879, Frances Doba (D) 799, Lisa Gaw (R) 744 and Richard Photos with 707.

And finally, the Bethany member of the regional board of education remains William Blake  (D) with 894 to John Paul Garica's (R) 755.
