Jewish Center's Summer Camp in Session
Jewish Community Center a top destination for local youths this summer.
The Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven is in the middle of another long summer, and that means camp is in session once again.
The camp, located at in Woodbridge, offers a multitude of activities for children in grades K-9 in addition to counselor in training programs. Activities include swimming in the camp’s five thousand square foot outdoor pool, stage productions, sports, picnicking, archery and hiking. In addition, the Jewish Community Center includes an indoor facility with over one hundred six thousand square feet of space. The camp teaches Jewish tradition and learning throughout the day.
“It’s a nice place to work, a nice place for kids to come for the summer,” said Kevin Daly, who runs the counselor in training program. Daly is in his seventh year with the camp.

“I am pleased with our fabulous staff,” Kirschner said. “Many are returning.”
Most counselors from the camp are from the region and were also campers at one time. Seventy-five percent of counselors were trained in the counselor in training program.
In addition, Kirschner elaborated on some of the benefits of this year’s camp.
“We have planned some new field trips this year and we have a new addition, a ga-ga court [used for a form of dodgeball].”
The group, comprised of about three hundred campers, will be making trips to local attractions such as the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA, Quassy Amusement Park, Hammonasset State Park and the Maritime Aquarium, amongst others.
Transportation is available to and from camp. Registration is still open and available to all depending on age and the desired week. In addition, a “S’more” camp is available for campers from August 15-19 and will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Those interested in attending should contact Debra at (203) 387-2522. More information can be found on the camp’s website at http://www.jccnh.org/camp.htm#.
