No Backup Jurors Picked Monday for Komisarjevsky

The defense has now used 37 of its 40 peremptory challenges.

No jurors were chosen during jury selection Monday for the Joshua Komisarjevsky trial.

The defense used another peremptory challenge Monday bringing its total to 37 since the start of jury selection.

Charged in the Cheshire home invasion triple homicide, Komisarjevsky faces the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of release if convicted.

Each side has a maximum of 40 peremptory challenges, which can be used to excuse jurors the attorneys feel would not favor their side. State prosecutors have used 35 challenges.

Defense lawyers and prosecutors have picked twelve regular jurors and six alternate jurors, but they still must pick three backup alternates. The trial is scheduled to start on Sept. 19.
