Storm Update, Audit Info and Why There is No Flag in Front of Town Hall

Bethany Board of Selectman Meeting Nov. 15, 2011

A short synopsis of what happened at last night’s Bethany Board of Selectmen meeting.

  • The board discussed the recovery period following the October winter storm. First Selectman Derrylyn Gorski said Bethany did better than a lot of other towns. Gorski, Fire Marshal Rod White and Public Works Director Al Green participated in daily conference calls with CL&P and other towns, some of which did not see a repair crew on their streets until as late as Thursday, while Bethany had a crew in town on Monday morning. Gorski credited the town’s liaison with helping to push through repairs quickly. The frustration with CL&P, she said, was with the inability to get information from their management.
  • The town audit is nearly done. The books have been closed out and there is a small surplus, however, there is still paperwork that has to be completed.
  • The town has received several complaints that there is currently no flag in front of town hall. However, the flag had been stuck in a nearby tree and torn during the storm. The damaged flag was removed and another one purchased to replace it, but the rigging was also damaged. Town crews will replace the rigging as soon as they can, but they have remained busy with cleaning up debris from the nor’ easter.
