Three Towns Proclaim June 8 as Amity Creative Theater Day

The First Selectmen of Bethany, Orange, and Woodbridge have joined together to proclaim June 8, 2026, as Amity Creative Theater Day throughout the Amity Region in recognition of Amity Creative Theater's extraordinary success
at the 2026 Stephen Sondheim Awards.

The joint proclamation coincides with the Amity Regional Board of Education's recognition of the students, directors, musicians, technical crews, faculty advisors, families, and volunteers whose dedication helped earn statewide recognition for the program.

At the 2026 Stephen Sondheim Awards, Amity Creative Theater received the prestigious Best Musical Award, one of the highest honors in Connecticut high school theater. The program was also recognized with awards for Best Director and Best Supporting Actress, reflecting the exceptional talent, leadership, and commitment found throughout the organization.

The proclamation recognizes the dedication, creativity, and countless hours of work invested by the cast, crew, orchestra, directors, faculty advisors, and volunteers whose efforts helped bring statewide recognition to the Amity school community.

The success of Amity Creative Theater reflects a collaborative effort that extends far beyond the stage. Under the leadership of theater teacher and director Robert Kennedy, and with the support of an exceptional parent organization, approximately 130 students contributed their talents to this year's production through acting, music, stage management, technical theater, set construction, costuming, lighting, sound, and production support.

School leaders noted that while the awards are a significant achievement, the lasting impact of the program can be found in the confidence, creativity, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth students gain through participation in the performing arts.
