Unemployment Drops in Bethany, Woodbridge
The unemployment rate is far below the state and national average. Even better, it keeps getting lower.

While the state and nation struggled with high unemployment since the onset of the recession, Bethany and Woodbridge’s unemployment rate has been better. The recently released figures by the Connecticut Department of Labor show that the rate in both towns is trending even lower.
According to October results, Bethany’s unemployment rate is 5.6 percent, the lowest it’s been all year. In Woodbridge, unemployment is 5.4 percent, the lowest since April 2011.
For the second month in a row Connecticut’s numbers improved. Adjusted for seasonal unemployment, the figure now stands at 8.7 percent. The nation as a whole is at 9 percent.

“A second month of positive movement in Connecticut’s jobs and unemployment numbers is always good news, however the employment sectors that appear most responsible for October’s job growth seem to be related to demand for repairs driven by Hurricane Irene,” said Andy Condon, director of the Office of Research, in a statement. “The strongest increases came from construction, temporary employment services, and services to buildings & dwellings. We would expect this type of job growth to be temporary.”
