Woodbridge Planning and Zoning Comission, June 6

Approvals all around at last night's meeting

A brief summary of what was discussed at last night's meeting for those who want to know what's happening in town, but can't make it to the meetings:

  • The Woodbridge Plan and Zoning Commission approved an application from the Massaro Farm to operate a farm stand to sell excess produce. The farm stand can operate during the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • Former P&Z Commissioner Warren Luciani was granted an approval to move his stone and mulch company from 125 Bradley Road to 140 Bradley Road. A handful of residents and business associates spoke in support of the application at the public hearing. Luciani also received approval to operate a retail business to sell various sized stone, gravel, mulch and topsoil. The approval came with one condition: that Luciani has a proper dust control management program in place, since the operation tends to stir up dust on windy days. No one spoke in opposition to the application at last night's public hearing.
  • An application from The Woodbridge Club to erect a sign at the corner of Milhaven and Ansonia Roads was also approved. Town Building Official Terry Gilbertson called the approval,' sensible planning' since the existing sign is hidden from the road and the new location will be better visible.  The free-standing sign will be made of wood and will be in compliance with zoning regulations.
  • Biotech company CareStream received approval to modify its TPZ permit for use of the site to upgrade specific rooms within the biological laboratory to a Biosafety Level-2 Classification from a Biosafety Level-1 Classification. The change in classification had more to do with qualifying for a grant than a change in business operation. CareStream conducts cancer research on animals at its Research Drive labs.
