Branford Man Chooses Prison Instead of a Trial In Wife's Death After DUI Crash
Vincent Mauro, 32, decided this week to accept a plea deal that calls for prison time instead of opting for a trial.

A Branford man, who crashed his car while driving under the influence, killing his wife, has agreed to a new plea deal this week that will have him spend two years in prison, instead of opting for a trial, the New Haven Register’s Michelle Tuccitto Sullo reports.
Vincent Mauro, 32, entered a plea agreement in December that would give him a maximum of one year in prison with the right to argue for less time.
According to the Register, that agreement was found to be inappropriate by the judge, and transferred for further negotiations.

Mauro this week agreed to a two-year prison sentence and pleaded no contest to second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, the Register reports. Mauro had to inform the judge whether he’d accept the plea or opt for a trial on Wednesday.
He will be sentenced on April 17 and once he is released he will be on probation for five years.

Once Mauro gets his license back he will have to drive with an ignition interlock device. The victim’s family will speak at Mauro’s sentencing.
Mauro’s attorney Tara Knight told the Register that her client loved his wife and is devastated by what happened.
The fatal crash happened in August 2013. Mauro’s blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit at the time.
