Branford's Mike "Ringo" Streeto Celebrates 50th Anniversary of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper"

Article on Branford resident celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper" at the Oakdale Theater

Branford's Mike Streeto has been playing drums most of his life. He has been portraying The Beatles' Ringo Starr on and off for the past twenty years.

Mike lives and works in Branford, but his musical career often finds him traveling. He has had stints in Las Vegas, Tahoe, Ft. Lauderdale, Atlantic City and many other locations with such Beatles tribute shows as Yesterday, Fab Fourever, The MerseyBeat and his current band, The Hofners, who recently played
on Broadway. The Hofners mark a drastic change from all the other shows he's done, including sitting in for Beatlemania and playing Foxwoods with "Legends in Concert." For with The Hofners, Mike is the band's manager and leader, and this year is a very important year for any Beatles tribute act, but especially The
Hofners.

On June 1, 1967, The Beatles put out "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and music was never the same again. It was the kick-off of "The Summer of Love" and the beginning of album rock, FM radio and conceptual recordings. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of this historic release, The Hofners will twice be performing the Sgt. Pepper album in complete Sgt Pepper uniforms. They will be doing a free afternoon show at Branford's Blackstone Memorial Library on Sunday, May 21st at 2pm, and also headlining the 2017 "Fab 4 Music Festival" at the Oakdale Theater on Saturday, June 10th.

Area Beatles Fan Club Liverpool Productions, in association with Live Nation, are presenting the "Fab 4 Music Festival" on Saturday June 10th to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of "Sgt. Pepper," and The Hofners have been invited back to headline the event for the fourth year. However, this is the
first time at the Oakdale, as the festival has changed locations from its previous home in Danbury to the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, CT. Also for the first time, there will be two stages of performances, doubling the number of acts from ten to twenty. Half of the groups will be performing indoors, under the "Pepperland" Dome, while the other half will be playing outside on the "Octopus' Garden" Patio.

The popular New York/New England regional Beatles-themed festival, known in past years as "Danbury Fields Forever," is a family-friendly Music, Foods & Arts Festival featuring the music of The Beatles, their solo material and songs from the sixties. Area fans are delighted that the event has moved closer to home.

It will all "come together" from 1pm until 10pm on June 10th, and, again in celebration of the
50th Anniversary of "Sgt. Pepper" and the year 1967, advance "Ticket to Ride" general admissions are only $19.67. There are also V.I.P. tickets available. Note that admission will be higher at the door. Advance tickets available at LiveNation/Ticketmaster.

All in all, along with The Hofners, there will be a total of 20 bands playing both inside and out. There will also be Beatles, 60s and music memorabilia dealers & vendors, exhibitions, attractions, kid-friendly activities, along with a large variety of food options available. Special Guest of Honor for the event is Gene Cornish of The Rascals, a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

To say that Streeto is very exciting about the Oakdale showcase would be putting it mildly. "Growing up, any local garage band wanted to play Toad's Place, but any established artist wanted to play the Oakdale." For Streeto, who has toured England (and visited Liverpool), played Casinos, amphitheaters, arenas, and even a private engagement at the renowned Friar's Club in Manhattan earlier this year, it's a treat to finally play the Oakdale. Mike adds, "with it being the 50th anniversary of 'Sgt. Pepper,' I'm very excited and honored to be
able to part of such a special celebration with my band."

The Hofners will be the only band playing material from "Sgt. Pepper," and for Streeto, who resides on East Main Street and works at Stop & Shop when he's not being "a Beatle," this is a chance to show another side of the band, who have only played the early Beatles' classics in past area performances.

The Fab 4 Music Festival is presented by Live Nation in association with the Liverpool Productions Beatles Fan Club of Connecticut, the same company that presented "NYC FAB 50: The Beatles' 50th Anniversary Celebration" in New York City, and have produced Beatles Conventions in CT since 1978. They also
organize the annual fan vacations to Liverpool and London known as the "Magical History Tour." The designated charity for the event is Concerts With Causes, Inc., based in Wallingford, CT.

With a full day of Beatleful fun and music, as The Beatles sang, "It's Guaranteed to Raise a Smile." You can be sure that Branford's own Ringo, Mike Streeto, will be smiling too.
