One Dead, 2 Injured in Wrong-Way I-95 Accident in Branford

State Police release the names of all three individuals and their initial findings of their investigation.

State Police say one man has died, another is in serious condition, and a third person was injured in an early morning wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 northbound in Branford.

State Police say a vehicle driven by Hopeton Blair Kerr, 43, of Pierce Street in Bridgeport was on the northbound side of I-95, north of Exit 54, when a vehicle driven by Peter Hall, 69, of Lawrence Street in New Haven, was traveling the wrong way and collided head-on with Kerr’s vehicle in the right hand lane.

Hall was pronounced dead at the scene, while Kerr incurred minor injuries, but Kerr’s passenger, Frank P. Poppa, 23, of Arizona sustained serious injuries in the crash, State Police said.

State Police are investigating. The accident was reported around 3:35 a.m. Thursday, and light traffic conditions were reported at the time.
