BACK IN THE DAY I knew the BIJOU THEATER under its'former name THE RIVOLI THEATER.I still remember how the inside looked as you entered and can still smell the popcorn in the air -boy those were the days alright when my mom took us to the movies.THE BIJOU is located downtown BRIDGEPORT and indeed the oldest building in AMERICA dating way back.IN 1909 LILLIAN L.ASHMUN bought the building -the property at 269=275-FAIRFIELD AVE,BRIDGEPORT CT.IT was slated to be a opera house but the non talking movies-got- popular so it became a movie house.IN 1910 A-PETER DAULE- bought the BIJOU THEATER with 200 seats and five cent matinees and ten cents night shows it was well on its'way to be popular.LATER ATHAN G.PRAKAS A GREEK IMMIGRANT bought the BIJOU.THen over time the name changed many times.IN 2003 IT-was purchased by the KUCHMA- FAMILY.THE BIJOU SQUARE is indeed so much a pert of our city of BRIDGEPORTS'HISTORY dating to BACK IN THE DAY.
