Bridgeport Man Suffers Leg Injury In Shooting, Cops Say

The shooting occurred just after midnight on Wednesday, according to Bridgeport police.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 29-year-old Bridgeport man suffered a leg injury early Wednesday when he was shot during an incident in the 100 block of Garden Street in Bridgeport, according to police.

The injury was not considered to be a threat to his life, and he was released from an area hospital following treatment.

Bridgeport police were alerted to the shooting through a ShotSpotter activation; ShotSpotter is a gunshot detection system that quickly notifies authorities of gunshots and their approximate location.

"Upon arriving in the area, Officers were unable to locate a victim," said Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran in a statement. "A crime scene was identified one street south of the ShotSpotter activation, within the 100 block of Garden Street. A short time later a 29-year-old Bridgeport man presented at an area hospital suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. The 29-year-old victim has since left the hospital."

Detectives and patrol officers have gathered multiple items of evidence, and conducted interviews from the scene.

"This appears to be an isolated incident where the victim was singled out by the shooter(s)," Gilleran said.

Bridgeport police are asking for the public's help in solving the crime, and urge anyone with information to contact the case officer, Detective Aaron Rivera, at 203-581-5179.
