Again Bridgeport,CT.became the main focus. The very first statue ever erected was that of ELIAS HOWE.This was right here in SEASIDE PARK.The statue is of ELIAS HOWE JR.a CIVIL WAR VETERAN who fought for CONNECTICUT.The statue was dedicated in 1884.HE truly was the inventor of the sewing machine and received the first U.S.PATENT for his invention.HE built a factory here and produced sewing machines. His statue stands as a tribute to him as an industrialist as well as a CIVIL WAR SOLDIER.His statue joins others such as COLUMBUS and of course P.T.BARNUM at SEASIDE PARK. IF you are a history buff take a ride through the park and take a close look at these statues which are so much a part of our cities'history.
