Ex-Bridgeport Councilman Says He 'Would Never' Use Former Role to Avoid a Ticket: Report

BREAKING: The ticket reportedly had the words "Expecting favoritism for being a city councilman," written on the back of it.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Accused of "Expecting favoritism" due to his former role, an ex-Bridgeport city councilman denied allegations that he used his former position to avoid a traffic ticket, reports the Connecticut Post.

The former Democratic councilman for the 132nd District Robert Halstead appeared in court Thursday to contest a ticket for going down a one-way street the wrong way. Police that Halstead was stopped for traveling the wrong way down Warren Street.

According to the Post, Halstead claimed to have told the officer that "This is no way to treat someone who has dedicated himself to the city of Bridgeport all his life," but denied telling the officer that he was a councilman.

The report further indicated that the ticket given to Halstead had the words "Expecting favoritism for being a city councilman," written clearly on the back of the ticket.
