Where did the CITY OF BRIDGEPORT go wrong.?Where did we lose our foothold as the industrial leader of the state?First off BRIDGEPORT is the biggest city in our state. From 1870-1910-BRIDGEPORT was the industrial hub of the state. When the railroads were completed BRIDGEPORT was the trade hub for shipbuilding and whaling and manufacturing was the main stay of our economy during the 70's too.Restructuring of heavy industry after the mid 20th century caused thousands of job losses and the city headed for a decline.AS the years passed we lost many manufacturers of various products. Many companies are gone elsewhere and we sit today with blighted buildings as a reminder of when industry was our strength .Never again will our city be known as the industrial hub like we were in the past.ALL we have now are memories of what was back then and our future does not promise that we truly will ever revitalize our position as a leader in manufacturing.
