Case Continued for 2 Ex-Brookfield Employees Accused of Stealing More Than $100K of School Funds for Personal Use

Former Brookfield school officials Art Colley and Elizabeth Kerekes appeared in Danbury Superior Court on Wednesday.

BROOKFIELD, CT-- Two ex-school employees charged with stealing thousands of dollars from the school district appeared in court Wednesday, according to court records.

Art Colley and Elizabeth Kerekes both appeared in court together Wednesday and are being delayed until April 9, 2016, so both sides could gather more information, according to The News Times.

An audit showed approximately $124,000 in questionable spending by former Brookfield School employees Elizabeth Kerekes and Art Colley.

Colley has pleaded not guilty to the charges and Kerekes is seeking special probation.

Art Colley, 58, has been charged with three counts of first-degree larceny, and one count each of second-degree larceny, second- and third-degree forgery. He is also charged with defrauding a public community and conspiracy to commit larceny, according to Connecticut Judicial Court records.

Elizabeth Kerekes, 41, of Brookfield, was the assistant of Art Colley in the schools’ finance department and was arrested in relation to misappropriation of school funds for personal use.

Patch reported last September that Kerekes was one of two former Brookfield Public Schools employees to be arrested in for allegedly using school funds for personal use. Her boss, former finance director Art Colley, 57, was charged with second-degree larceny and third-degree forgery.

An audit revealed nearly $124,000 in questionable spending by Colley and Kerekes. The forensic audit analyzed more than 600 transactions involving Colley , Kerekes and other present and former school employees.
