Pension Suit Between Brookfield, Former Controller Continued

In 2016 Brookfield demanded the former employee reimburse the town for $110,000​ in benefits which officials said they had overpaid him.

BROOKFIELD, CT — A final management conference between the town and former controller Ray Bolek has been pushed off to February.

A motion to a Superior Court Judge, filed by by Brookfield's attorneys, indicates that neither side in the dispute would be able to attend the conference as originally scheduled for this week.

The motion revealed that Bolek and his son were unable to attend a November conference as the elder Bolek is now suffering from dementia and has moved into an assisted living facility. Bolek's son has Power of Attorney over the his affairs, according to the filing.

In 2016 Brookfield demanded that Bolek reimburse the town for $110,000 in benefits which officials said they had overpaid him. Bolek gave the money back, and the town reduced his monthly pension benefit to $2,650 a month, down from $3,200. Then Bolek sued the town to get the money back and his monthly benefit payout restored to $3,200.
