Pre-Trail Hearing Begins for Ex-Brookfield School Finance Director Accused of Stealing $120K of School Funds

Former Brookfield school officials Art Colley and Elizabeth Kerekes are due in Danbury Superior Court on Friday.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Elizabeth Kerekes and Art Colley are both due on court on Friday, May 13 for a pre-trail hearing on allegations that they conspired to steak over $120,000 of Brookfield School funds on personal items, according to court documents.

The former Brookfield school officials appeared in Danbury Superior Court in March after being charged with allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the school district.

An audit showed approximately $124,000 in questionable spending by the pair.

Colley has pleaded not guilty to the charges and Kerekes is seeking special probation.

Art Colley has been charged with three counts of first-degree larceny, and one count each of second-degree larceny, second- and third-degree forgery. He is also charged with defrauding a public community and conspiracy to commit larceny, according to Connecticut Judicial Court records.

Elizabeth Kerekes was the assistant of Art Colley in the schools’ finance department and was arrested in relation to misappropriation of school funds for personal use.

Patch reported last September that Kerekes and Colley were arrested for allegedly using school funds for personal use. A forensic audit analyzed more than 600 transactions involving Colley , Kerekes and other present and former school employees.
