Black Dog Syndrome, the theory that black dogs have a much lower chance of being adopted over lighter colored dogs, is a little known phenomenon happening in shelters all over America. To raise awareness, Boot n’ Kit Canine Rescue will be holding a “Black Dog, White Tie Affair” adoption event from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, August 3rd. 2013 in hopes of saving some of these lives. All of the adoptable pets will be black colored puppies and will be adorned with white bow ties and other fun accessories. Dogology is hosting the event at 166 Albany Turnpike, Canton.
“We suspect the public is not as aware of how doomed black dogs are when in a shelter or pound. Black dogs, particularly black labs and lab mixes, are euthanized at an alarming rate because people pass them up for the lighter colored dogs.” said Squires, co-founder of Boot n’ Kit. “They are just as loving, just as fluffy, just as deserving as all of the others and we want to raise awareness to prove it!” Boot n’ Kit has dedicated themselves to saving puppies from overcrowded open-admission shelters. We are encouraging people looking for a companion or those ready to open their hearts and homes to deserving puppies to come to our event to try to meet their match! Most of these puppies wouldn't have a chance otherwise.
Potential adopters must be preapproved to adopt at this event. An application can be found at www.bootnkit.petfinder.com or on the rescue’s Facebook page and must be in 24 hours before the event.
