Immaculate High School to Honor Student Tragically Killed in Accident with First Annual 5K

Immaculate High is remembering one of their own by honoring Rebecca Draper Townsend with a 5K run to benefit 'She's the First.'

On Saturday, May 21, the Immaculate Chapter of She’s the First is partnering with the Immaculate Track Team and Volleyball Team to host the First Annual Rebecca Draper Townsend 5K Fun Walk/Run.

Rebecca Draper Townsend was a 17-year-old Immaculate graduate from the Class of 2015 who passed away in a tragic accident on July 2, 2015. She was struck and killed on Lake Ave. in Danbury while crossing the street with her friend Benjamin Arne who was critically injured. She was the founder of the Immaculate High School She’s The First Chapter, one of the first high school chapters in the country.

Rebecca's short life has made a huge impact on thousands and her friends and family want to make sure her legacy lives on. All proceeds from the 5K will be donated to She’s the First, an organization that provides scholarships to girls in low-income developing countries to help transform their lives through education. Only one in every five girls in the developing world finishes primary school and only one in three attends secondary school. For $400, Immaculate’s She’s The First Chapter can send a young girl to school for a year.

After her death last year, She’s the First wrote on their Facebook page, “Rebecca’s passion and energy for She’s the First has been an inspiration to all of us, and we are devastated at her loss. Her chapter helped send a number of girls to school, but one that stands out to us is Joy, a third-grader in Uganda, whose very name reminds us of Rebecca’s impact on the lives of everyone around her, near or far.”
