Darien 2021 Election Voter Guide: Meet The Candidates

Here's everything you need to know concerning the Darien local elections including the candidates, polling places, voting hours and more.

DARIEN, CT — On Tuesday, Nov. 2, Darien residents will cast their votes for a number of key municipal positions in town. The position of first selectman, selectman, town clerk, town treasurer, tax collector and spots on the Board of Education, Board of Finance, among other positions, are up for grabs.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 2. Voters who are in line before 8 p.m. will be able to vote even after the deadline passes. You can find your poll location at the Secretary of the State website by inputting your information.

You can request an absentee ballot here or you can visit your town clerk's office. All voters are eligible to check the top box that lists "COVID-19" as a reason for requesting an absentee ballot.

In Darien, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson announced this year she will not seek re-election. Democratic candidate Tara Ochman and Republican candidate Monica McNally, as well as petitioning candidate Christian Noe, are all running for the top position in town.

For Selectman, the candidates are Democrats Sarah Neumann and Michael Burke and Republicans Marcy Minnick and Jon Zagrodzky.

For the position of town clerk, Republican Christa Sheehan McNamara is running unopposed. Likewise, Republican Joan Hendrickson is running unopposed for town treasurer.

Republican Kathleen Larkins is also running unopposed for the position of tax collector.

Candidates for the Board of Finance are Republicans Paul Hendrickson, John Wolcott and Robert Cardone and Democrat David Martin.

Candidates for the Board of Education are Democrats Stacey Tié and Julie Best and Republicans David Brown and Tara Wurm. For the Board of Assessment Appeals, it's Democrat Glenn Ritch versus Republican Christopher Peters.

For the Planning and Zoning Commission, the candidates are Democrat Adam Balgach and Republicans James Rand and Stephen Olvany. Additionally, Republican candidate Geoffrey Ball is running to fill a vacancy on the commission for two years.

The candidates for constables are Republicans Alan Hyatt and Louis James Calastro.


District 1

In Voting District 1, candidates for the non-partisan Representative Town Meeting are: Luisa Brakman, Patti Finn Bumgardner, Patrick Keane, Colin Kelly, Derek Lublin, Karen McNicoll, Lois Schneider, Jenny Schwartz and Bert von Stuelpnagel.


District 2

In Voting District 2, candidates for the non-partisan Representative Town Meeting are: Vincent Arguimbau, William Cusack, Mia Handler, Susanne Handler, Jeffery Hudson, Jacqueline Miller and Iris Mix.


District 3

In Voting District 3, candidates for the non-partisan Representative Town Meeting are: Kari Cardone, Adele Conniff, Holly Giordano, Eric Golus, Elizabeth Lane, M. Carolina McGoey, Sue-Ellen Mitchell, Thomas Moore and Seth Morton.


District 4

In Voting District 4, candidates for the non-partisan Representative Town Meeting are: Martha Banks, Jim Cameron, Christine Castles, Dan Guller, Eric Kanigan, Frank Kemp, Joseph Miceli, Andrew Millar and Sandra Savage.


District 5

In Voting District 5, candidates for the non-partisan Representative Town Meeting are: Kenneth Fiveson, Christopher Noonan, Erin Noonan, James Patrick, Laura Pesce-Gray, Waddill Platt, Ann Reed and H. William Smith.


District 6

In Voting District 6, candidates for the non-partisan Representative Town Meeting are: Barry Baldwin, Mary Nevin Gauthier, Janet Grogan, Liza Lucas, Martha Luz, Sarah Madson, Peter Orphanos, Shannon Silsby, William Van Loan Jr. and Theresa Vogt.
