Connecticut Weather: Some Rain This Weekend, A Lot More Next Week

Here's the latest on a so-so weekend weather forecast and a top meteorologist says heavy rain is also expected next week too.

It appears Connecticut has itself confused with Seattle’s weather the past two months and that looks like it’s going to continue with some more rain and possibly a thunderstorm Saturday and then heavy rain by the end of next week, according to two of the state’s meteorologists.

The National Weather Service says we can expect some rain Saturday morning, possibly a thunderstorm or two, before the rain ends by early afternoon. Just don’t expect to see the sun as the skies remain cloudy but it will feel very warm with temps near 80 degrees.

There is also a slight chance of rain showers early Sunday before the sun does appear, and you guessed it more showers are possible Sunday night and Monday. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app.)

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons sums up the weekend weather forecast by writing, “A damp start today followed by sunshine and temperatures in the 70s for a fabulous Friday afternoon! It will be a nice evening too! Make sure you get outside and enjoy it. There will be some showers early on Saturday morning then brightening and warming up. Much cooler weather coming in on Sunday.”

And then NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan tells us to keep those umbrellas nearby, especially late next week.

“Signals continue to grow for heavy rain and cooler temperatures by the end of next week. These are the odds of seeing >1" of rain in 48-hours... odds of nearly 60% is an extremely strong signal for 7 or 8 days out!,” Hanrahan wrote.

Over the past couple of months as Connecticut has seen rainstorm after rainstorm extreme drought conditions have greatly improved, but still central parts of the state are still listed as being in a moderate drought.

Friday: Fog departs after 9 a.m. Clouds give way to sun. High temps into the 70s.

Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms in the morning possible. Temps near 80. Mostly cloudy.

Sunday: Slight chance of showers in the morning. Partly sunny in the afternoon, high temp only near 60 degrees. Showers possible at night.

Monday: More showers on Monday, especially in the afternoon and evening hours.

Tuesday: Partly sunny and high into the 70s.
