Fire at East Hampton School Offices
Damage to one side of building before fire is extinguished.
A fire Wednesday morning at the East Hampton Public Schools building was quickly extinguished but not before significant damage to one side of the building.
The East Hampton Fire Department responded to 94 Main St. about 10:45 a.m. and soon after was joined by departments from Portland, Colchester and Marlborough.

The fire apparently was caused when a dump truck, owned by a local paving company, brought down electrical wiring while its back was upright. The company was in the process of installing new curbing at the site.
The building was evacuated and no one was injured.

School Superintendent Dr. Judith Golden praised the first responders.
"A phenomenal response," she said. "The fire department, CL&P, the police."
And with an old structure such as this one, a quick response was key. The building was once the Center Grammar School, built in 1866.
