Former Portland First Selectman Sentenced to 3 Years In Prison

According to the Hartford Courant, Edward Kalinowski pleaded guilty in May to charges of trying to solicit a sexual encounter from a minor through computer contact.

Former five-term first selectman Edward L. Kalinowski was sentenced Monday in a court in Florida to three years in prison and 10 years of probation in an undercover cyber sting case that came to light last year.

According to the Hartford Courant, Kalinowski pleaded no-contest in May to three felony charges including traveling to meet a minor after using a computer to solicit and use of a computer to seduce, solicit or lure a child.

Kalinowski, 60, was one of 15 men arrested on Sept. 2, 2011, following a seven-day cyber sting conducted by the Volusia County Sherriff's Office, the Courant reported. The newspaper said the men made "overt declrations" to exploit children they believed were minors.

Kalinowski will have to register as a sex offender following his release from prison.
