Man Dies Following Two-Car Accident in East Hampton

Police continue to investigate a fatal accident on Route 66 Saturday that also left another man injured.

A 65-year-old man has died after sustaining severe injuries following a two-car collission in East Hampton on Saturday.

Police said the man was driving a Toyota Prius on Route 66 when the accident happened at about 5:41 p.m. Police said the Prius collided with a Dodge pick-up truck near the intersection with Route 151.

The 65-year-old man was treated at the scene and flown via LifeStar to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was pronounced dead at the hospital after efforts to resuscitate him failed, police said.

The driver of the truck, a 33-year-old man, sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Hartford Hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

It’s unclear which direction either driver was heading on Route 66.

Police have not named either of the drivers because they are still making contact with their families. As of late Sunday evening, officers were still at the scene investigating the case.
