Victim in Fatal Accident Identified

Investigation by East Hampton Police continues.

East Hampton Police have released the identity of the pedestrian who was struck by a motor vehicle and killed on Route 66 on Saturday night, and the name of the driver of the pickup truck which hit her.

The pedestrian that was involved in the accident was Gail Patterson. Patterson, who resided at Westside Manor, an assisted living community at 9 West High St. in East Hampton, was 58.

Patterson sustained fatal injuries as a result of the accident, police said in a press release on Wednesday. Patterson was struck while crossing Route 66 in front of Stop & Shop. An autopsy was completed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Monday. The cause of her death has been certified as multiple blunt traumatic injuries. The manner of her death has been certified as accident.

The driver of the pickup which struck Patterson was Sean Martland, 26, of 6 Mark Twain Drive in East Hampton.

The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
