Cops Investigate Bomb Threat Against Planet Fitness, Second In 2 Weeks

EAST HAVEN, CT — Thursday afternoon, New Haven police contacted the East Haven police noting they'd gotten an email from an "unidentified sender" claiming that a bomb was planted at Foxon Road Planet Fitness location, East Haven police spokesperson Capt. Joseph. M. Murgo said Friday.

The 836 Foxon Road Planet Fitness location and surrounding businesses and houses were evacuated until the New Haven Police Bomb Squad arrived to sweep the building, Murgo said.

"It was determined that the threat was unfounded," he said. "It should be noted that this is the second time in two weeks the East Haven Planet Fitness along with others in the region were evacuated because of bomb threats."

Murgo said that detectives from East Haven will be working with state and federal officials to determine the source of the threats.

"These incidents remain under investigation, and anyone with information regarding the identity of the person responsible for the threats is asked to contact detectives" at 203-468-3820, police said.
