A Likely 'Careless Burn' Fueled A Large Brush Fire: East Haven Fire Department

EAST HAVEN, CT — Sunday night, shortly after 7 p.m., East Haven Public Safety was alerted to a brush fire in the marsh behind Vista Drive.

When firefighters arrived, they found a large area of brush on fire that extended to structures in the area, according to authorities.

Companies worked to extinguish multiple fires, and the incident was brought under control in roughly an hour, firefighters said on Facebook.

Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli said the fire marshal is still determining the exact cause of the burn, which could be seen for miles.

"But right now, it seems that the most likely scenario was careless burning," Marcarelli told Patch.

Marcarelli said that police also assisted.

"We also activated the police department drone to check for hotspots with its thermal imaging capabilities," he said.
