• East Haven Fire Welcomes Mason Hallstrom As Newest Firefighter/Paramedic (patch.com) — East Haven's fire department has added a new firefighter/paramedic, Mason Hallstrom, who will begin training at the Connecticut Fire Academy on Monday before joining a shift in town. The department expects him to earn paramedic authorization and uphold its high standards, continuing a family tradition of public safety service in the region.
   

• 21-year-old New Haven man dies after double shooting (ctpost.com) — A New Haven shooting in the West River neighborhood has turned fatal, claiming the life of 21-year-old Garnet Beckford and injuring a 24-year-old man from East Haven who walked into Yale-New Haven Hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. Police say the incident does not appear random and are asking anyone with information to contact detectives or the anonymous tip line.
