Roof Repairs To Start at the Hagaman Memorial Library

Starting September 2, 2022 work focused on replacing three flat roofs, performing scope repairs on the sloping slate tile roofs to the 1928 library building, and waterproofing the brickwork to the 1928 library building will be done at the Hagaman Memorial Library.

The repair work to be done will last three to four weeks. During this time patron parking will be limited to the front part of the library’s parking lot. Given the limited availability of parking spaces, it is recommended that patrons park their vehicles across the street in the Town of East Haven parking lot. Note that with the back library parking lot being closed off due to the repair work, patron parking at the Stop and Shop parking lot bordering the library’s back parking lot should not be done. Also patrons need to be aware that the front public entrance to the library building will be closed at times during the repair work and patrons are to follow markers to a special walkway to the back public entrance which will remain open during the repairs.

The Hagaman Memorial Library and the Town of East Haven received a Public Library Construction Grant, which is a matching grant program administered by the Connecticut State Library to pay for the roof repairs. The Connecticut State Bonding Commission approved fifty percent, or $159, 375, of the total cost of the roof repairs. The other fifty percent, $159,375, of the cost is provided for in local matching funding from the Town of East Haven, the Hagaman Memorial Library, and the Friends of the Hagaman Memorial Library.
