Annual Dinner Of Enfield Thieves And Robbers Social Group Slated
The 199th annual dinner meeting of the Enfield Society for the Detection of Thieves and Robbers is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 19.

ENFIELD, CT — In 1823, the Enfield Society for the Detection of Thieves and Robbers was chartered, with the charge of tracking down horse thieves, as well as persons who stole money or household goods from members. The creation of the Enfield Police Department in the late 1800s made the Society obsolete for law enforcement purposes, but Enfield's oldest organization has continued to meet annually.
The 199th gathering of the Society is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 19 in Fitzmaurice Hall at St. Bernard Church on Hazard Ave. A reception begins at 6 p.m., with dinner provided by Figaro Restaurant at 6:30 sharp.
The highlight of the evening is an intriguing keynote by Dwight Merriam, a nationally-prominent land-use planner and attorney. His "The New World of Drones" will explore the suddenly prolific use of drones across our society, including in public safety, public utilities, land-use planning and municipal enforcement. Drones come with operational challenges, and certainly civil rights implications that need ample consideration.
