ENFIELD, CT — Police are seeking a trio of burglars who stole an automated teller machine from a Route 5 convenience store early Sunday morning, damaging the entire storefront in the process.

At 3:19 a.m., a burglar alarm was received at the Enfield Police Department from the Stop & Save Food Mart at 583 Enfield Street. Officers quickly arrived and found the entire front glass of the store shattered, with a metal door in the parking lot, Det. Lt. Willie Pedemonti said.

An investigation revealed a person had pried open the door and made entry, and a second person tied a tow rope to the back of a vehicle while the person inside the store tied it around a freestanding ATM. A third person then accelerated the vehicle and pulled the safe outside into the parking lot, shattering the entire set of glass, Pedemonti said.

The three people fled in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle, bearing a stolen Massachusetts license plate, 7MP279. The SUV was last seen entering Interstate 91 from Elm Street, Pedemonti said.

The estimated damage to the storefront and the loss value of the ATM and its contents has not yet been determined, Pedemonti said.
