DCF: Enfield 12-Year-Old Eve Rogers Was Subject Of Prior Report

The new details add to the timeline in the closely watched Enfield case.

ENFIELD, CT — The state Department of Children and Families said it had been investigating a report involving Eve Rogers for about a week before the 12-year-old Enfield girl’s death.

DCF spokesman Peter Yazbak said the agency received a report in March 2026 that Eve had left her home in the early morning hours, without the knowledge or permission of her family, to walk to a nearby store.

“The Department had been investigating these allegations for approximately one week prior to Eve’s untimely death,” Yazbak said.

According to WFSB, Enfield police responded to a convenience store incident about a week before 12-year-old Eve Rogers was found dead at her home. The incident involved the reported shoplifting of an energy drink, Eyewitness News reported Tuesday.

The statement adds a new timeline detail to the case, which has remained under close scrutiny since Eve was found dead March 18 at her family’s Elm Street home in Enfield.

Her stepfather, Anthony Federline, 39, was later arrested and charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child. He has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors said in court that Eve had been sexually assaulted and that Federline’s semen was found near her genital area. A judge kept his bond at the previously set $1 million, and he is due back in court May 5.

According to the arrest warrant, police responding to the home found Eve dead in her bedroom and documented items in the room that helped push the case into a criminal investigation. The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office was still awaiting toxicology results as of the latest public updates, and Eve’s cause of death had not yet been publicly released.

Federline had also been working as a bus driver for Enfield Public Schools through Smyth Bus, the district’s transportation contractor, before his arrest. He was fired after police announced the charges.

Yazbak said DCF is continuing to work with law enforcement as the investigation moves forward.

“We are continuing our joint investigation with law enforcement into both the circumstances surrounding Eve’s death and the allegations of sexual abuse that were reported following her passing,” Yazbak said.

He said the agency could not comment further because the criminal investigation remains active and evolving.
