ECDC Withdraws Loan Request to Enfield Town Council
A $200,000 loan application from the troubled nonprofit corporation had met with considerable opposition from residents.
ENFIELD, CT - The Enfield Community Development Corporation has withdrawn its controversial $200,000 loan request to the Enfield Town Council, the Hartford Courant reported.
The nonprofit agency had requested the funding in February to help get back on its feet after terminating its only two employees in the fall amid reports of fiscal mismanagement. Members of the organization’s board proposed the secured loan from the council, in part to compensate unpaid vendors.
At a Feb. 16 council meeting, many residents who spoke during the public communication portion of the meeting were opposed to the council granting the request, though two spoke highly of the organization. The council tabled the application at the time.
