ENFIELD, CT — For many years, James Schriver has brought smiles to the faces of literally thousands of guests enjoying his culinary creations as head chef at Grassmere Country Club. On a rainy Thursday morning, Schriver exhibited a rare smile of his own while playing a round in the rain at his employer's course.

For the first time in his life, Schriver recorded a hole-in-one, knocking an 8-iron into the cup on the fifth hole from 140 yards away. Witnesses to the ace were James Pio and Alex Kapinos.

It was the eighth hole-in-one scored at the club this year, and first since July 25. Six of the aces have been on the ninth hole, while Schriver is just the second person to drop a tee shot into the hole on the fifth in 2020.
