Family Day Frisbee Jamboree June 3 at Higgins Field
ENFIELD, CT—ERfC and Enfield Food Shelf will hold its first annual Family Day Frisbee Jamboree Day at Higgins Field in Enfield on Saturday, June 3rd from 10:00 am – 1 pm. The Jamboree, an initiative of Healthy Meals=Healthy Minds, is open to the community free of charge.
Registration opens at 9:30 for the Frisbee golf team and individual activities including Kan Jam, Flying Disc Target Toss (for ages 7-12) and an Under 6 Kid Zone with Frisbee art design and Frisbee tic-tac-toe activities.
Frisbee Golf enthusiast and Enfield High School science instructor, David Mourad, said the rules of Frisbee Golf are similar to those of mini-golf where your goal is to fly your Frisbee into the target (a basket) in the least amount of throws. He also add new players will received a quick tutorial.
Claire Hall, Executive Director of ERfC, said this new Healthy Meals=Healthy Minds event is designed to invite individuals and families to participate in out-of-school time activities together and to bring awareness and access to food and community resources in Enfield.
“We are working to make available to the Enfield community healthy, new activities designed for the whole family to learn and have fun together,” said Kathleen Souvigney, Enfield Food Shelf Executive Director.
All who register at the event will receive a free Frisbee and tickets to win one of three door prizes. Registered guests are also invited to a free community lunch from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm provided by community partners Thompsonville Firefighters and ShopRite of Enfield/Miller Farms Family Markets. The Blue Bunny Ice Cream Truck will also serve ice cream. Attendees should bring lawn chairs and blankets to the event.
Many local service providers will participate in the Jamboree festivities. The Rotary Club of Enfield will have an Amber Alert Child ID Booth to provide parents/guardians of children under 18 with a plastic ID card and sends information to a secure national database that can only be accessed by law enforcement officials. Also providing resources for the community at the event will be representatives from the Enfield Public Library, Enfield Housing Authority, Parent Leadership Academy (PLA), The Network, Enfield Food Shelf, and Enfield Loaves & Fishes.
Healthy Meals=Healthy Minds, funded through the MassMutual Life Mutual Impact grant, is designed to increase food security among low income Enfield families by providing access to healthy food, nutrition education, family engagement activities, case management services, and out-of-school time support for families.
