📰 News we're reading

1. Enfield Firefighters Begin Careers; Police Graduates Start Training (patch.com) — Enfield residents are welcoming two newly pinned firefighters, Cameron Paliy and Nicholas Liquori, who have officially begun serving with Enfield Fire District No. 1. At the same time, four Enfield police officers have graduated from the New Britain Police Academy and are returning to town for 16 weeks of supervised field training before starting solo patrols in local neighborhoods.

2. Enfield Man Killed In I-91 Crash (patch.com) — An Enfield man, 44-year-old Matthew W. Bennett, died after his Honda CR-V rolled on I-91 South in Windsor following contact with another vehicle, according to state police. Troopers say the Durham occupants of the second car were uninjured, and they are asking anyone from Enfield or nearby who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward.

3. Enfield Sets Aside $50,000 For Midtown Marketing (patch.com) — Enfield has earmarked $50,000 to hire a marketing firm to rebrand the Midtown/Thompsonville area and attract new businesses, with proposals due Oct. 6 and an anticipated November start. The campaign would create photos, videos, ads, and an economic development website highlighting local properties, workforce, and incentives, potentially shaping how your town markets itself to future employers and investors.

4. Enfield Highway Ramps To Close (patch.com) — If you rely on I-91 through Enfield, expect rotating overnight ramp closures at exits 45–49 starting Monday, Oct. 12, for about four weeks. Work will run Monday–Thursday nights, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., with only one ramp closed at a time and detours, police, and flaggers guiding traffic while crews replace guardrails, clean catch basins, and install curbing.

5. Simsbury runs over Bloomfield for third straight victory, 55-20 (collinsvillepress.com) — Simsbury's football team just posted its highest point total since a 2019 56-7 win over Enfield, rolling past Bloomfield 55-20 behind a huge rushing night from Nasir Gouldbourne. While the game itself was in Simsbury, the comparison highlights how dominant that past matchup with Enfield was and where Simsbury's current form now stands in the CCC Division III race.
