Throwback Thursday: Do You Remember...
A photo and story of a beloved business from Enfield's past.

ENFIELD, CT - In this periodic series, Enfield Patch publishes a photo of a business or landmark in town that is no longer in existence. Today, we are re-publishing one of the most popular Throwback columns ever.
With Mother's Day approaching next weekend, memories go back to one of Enfield's all-time favorite family-owned businesses. For nearly 50 years, the whitewashed-brick house with red shutters at 1684 King Street near the East Windsor border was home to Crand's Candy Castle.
Greek immigrant John Crand moved his candy business, established in 1935 in Gardner, Mass., to Enfield in 1953. In the beginning, his family lived on the second floor, and manufactured and sold candy on the first.

When John Crand passed away in 1963, his sons Robert and Tom took over the business. Tom retired in 1990, leaving Robert as sole proprietor until Crand's Candy Castle closed in 2001.
Enfield Patch invites readers to share their memories in the comments section below.
