Fairfield Woman Struck By Bicyclist in Central Park, Listed in Critical Condition

Jill Tarlov, 59, was being treated at New York-Presbyterian Hospital's Weill Cornell Medical Center.

A 59-year-old Fairfield woman is in critical condition after being struck by a bicyclist in Central Park in New York on Thursday, according to NBC Connecticut.

NBC reports that the woman fell to the ground and suffered head trauma and is being treated at New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Weill Cornell Medical Center.

The bicyclist, a 31-year-old man, stayed at the scene and had minor shoulder and hand injuries, according to NBC.

Based on a preliminary investigation by the NYPD, the man was riding in the park’s bike lane and hit the woman while swerving to avoid other pedestrians, according to NBC.

Updated: The woman was identified as Jill Tarlov, 59, the wife of a CBS executive, according to multiple news outlets.

Some New York media outlets are reporting that Tarlov is brain dead and being kept alive by a ventilator.

ā€œShe was my wife. She was the best,ā€ the woman’s stunned husband, Michael Wittman, a CBS executive in New York, told the New York Daily News. ā€œShe was walking in Central Park. We don’t know if she had the light or he did….she was in the crosswalk.ā€

The New York Post reports that the cyclist is Jason Marshall, who was pedaling a pricey Jamis Eclipse racing bike when he spotted Tarlov in the crosswalk at an intersection controlled by a traffic light, and according to the Post’s sources he ā€was riding in the car lane and yelling, ā€˜Get out of the way! Get out of the way!ā€™ā€‰ā€
