Rain Moves In, Strong Thunderstorms Expected: CT Weather

CONNECTICUT — As of 5 p.m. Thursday, rain had begun to fall in parts of Fairfield County and it's expected to continue to fill in across the state this evening. Showers and thunderstorms are expected tonight, especially in the overnight hours.

The National Weather Service says, "Showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop through this evening becoming more widespread. Rain will be heavy at times and there is the potential for localized flooding.

"Another round of scattered thunderstorms will be possible on Friday as a cold front moves through the region. Despite thunderstorm chances, most of the day will remain dry but humid
and hot with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. High pressure returns for the weekend with dry weather and warm temperatures."

CONNECTICUT — The upcoming weekend will feature a return of hot weather conditions with temps approaching 90 degrees both days, but it will be sunny for the weekend too. The humidity is also not expected to be a big concern though.

But before we get to a sunny and warm weekend, Connecticut is expected to see some strong thunderstorms late tonight and early Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for the state. Up to an inch of rain may fall from the storms.

The NWS says for Southern Connecticut, "Showers and thunderstorms with an approaching warm front late today into tonight could produce heavy rain capable of causing localized flooding."

For Northern Connecticut, the NWS says, "An isolated strong thunderstorm is possible Friday."

Timing of the Storms

"Unsettled weather will return today as a warm front approaches. Showers and thunderstorms will begin to develop this afternoon and become more widespread tonight, with potential for localized flooding.

A few showers and thunderstorms may continue into Friday ... until a cold front passes through in the evening. Very warm and dry conditions are expected for the upcoming weekend as high pressure returns."
