1. 4 Fairfield Schools Among Best High Schools In CT: New Rankings (patch.com) — Families in Fairfield can celebrate as four local high schools have been named among the top 50 in Connecticut in new Niche rankings, spanning both public and private schools. Fairfield Warde, Fairfield Ludlowe, Fairfield Prep and Notre Dame Prep all earned spots, reflecting strong academics and community reviews compared with schools statewide.
   

2. Fairfield Bans New Smoke, Vape And Tobacco Shops As Moratorium Expires (patch.com) — Fairfield residents will see no new smoke, vape or tobacco shops opening after the Town Plan and Zoning Commission unanimously changed zoning rules to ban those uses townwide. Existing shops can stay as nonconforming uses, while pharmacies, groceries, convenience stores and premium cigar retailers in Fairfield may continue limited tobacco sales under specific conditions.
   

3. UI asks court to overturn transmission line rejection, citing political pressure (hartfordbusiness.com subscription) — A $300 million United Illuminating transmission line project through Fairfield and Bridgeport is back in the spotlight as the company asks a judge to overturn state regulators' rejection. Fairfield officials and residents have opposed the aboveground route, while UI argues the upgrade is vital for grid reliability and was derailed by political pressure from the governor's office and local leaders.
   

4. Derby man planned to use cocaine to 'come down' from heroin after crash that killed CTDOT worker: Police report (wtnh.com) — A Connecticut DOT worker was killed Friday in a crash on I-95 South in Fairfield, where police say a Derby man driving under the influence struck him while he cleared debris. State police report the driver admitted using heroin beforehand and faces manslaughter, DUI, drug possession, and other charges after being arraigned on a $2 million bond.
   

5. Black Rock is getting a bridge. Now Bridgeport's East End wants one, too. (ctpost.com) — Bridgeport is moving ahead with a long-discussed pedestrian bridge from Black Rock over Ash Creek to better connect with Fairfield's train station, while East End leaders push for a similar span to Pleasure Beach. City officials are weighing engineering challenges, funding, and even conservation partnerships as they consider how easier access could revive Pleasure Beach and benefit nearby neighborhoods.
