Thousands Without Electricity In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT — More than 1,600 customers of the United Illuminating Co. lost power Friday afternoon in Fairfield, according to the company outage map. The 1,664 outages, which were mainly concentrated in the eastern area of town near Black Rock Turnpike, began about 4 p.m., the map said, affecting nearly 7 percent of UI customers in town. Many of the outages were expected to be restored by 5:45 p.m., but for another 909 customers, restoration wasn't projected until 8:15 p.m.
