FARMINGTON, CT — With the town expected to open a brand-new, state-of-the-art high school in late August, it only makes sense to get some use out of the doomed old Farmington High School.

According to the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department, that's exactly what firefighters did last Thursday, June 20, at the old school building, located at 10 Monteith Drive.

With the old FHS set for demolition this year, FVFD members attacked the building for some "intense live training," in the words of the department.

"Our members trained on hose line advancement, forcible entry, and roof operations including cutting ventilation holes through concrete," wrote the FVFD.

"These skills are trained and practiced regularly but rarely do we get the ability to have full hands-on practical application."

Hopefully, the firefighters won't need to practice the skills learned last week anytime soon, but should that be necessary, they have the experience of going to work on a large school building.
