FARMINGTON, CT — A plan to convert a vacant gas station/garage into a new gas station/convenience store appears to be on hold indefinitely in Farmington.

The Farmington Plan and Zoning Commission was slated Monday to conduct a public hearing and, possibly, act on a zone change, special permit and site plan application from a developer to build a gas station/convenience store/bank branch and office building at 342 Colt Highway (Route 6).

The PZC last month unanimously accepted the application by developer CPD Parent Properties LLC and had scheduled the public hearing for Monday, Jan. 9.

But when the item came up Monday, town officials said the application was withdrawn and then the PZC quickly moved onto other items.

PZC members last month indicated one of the tenants was to be a coffee seller, but did not identify a specific franchise.

The proposed zone change was a revision proposal within the town's business zoning classifications.

If it was approved and built, the development would have taken another vacant property and transformed it into something to go on the town's tax rolls.

The site was formerly a gas station and garage, but it appears to have been vacant for years, with just a three-bay garage building and empty gas pump islands visible at the site today.

No reason was given for the application withdrawal, but proposed developers always have the option of resubmitting applications.
