The boys from Unionville Post 32 Senior Legion Baseball got back on track Thursday, June 28, 2012 with a 1-0 win over Torrington at Tunxis Mead Park.
David Kerlejza pitched seven effective innings to shutout Torrington. He struck out seven, walked one and allowed only five hits. Four times during the game Torrington had runners on third base but Kerlejza and Unionville’s defense kept them there. In the top of the seventh with the tying run on first base, Kerlejza executed a successful pick off for the second out of the inning and got the next batter to fly out to left for out number three and the win.
The other half of the dueling pitchers, Will Austin of Torrington, also surrendered only five hits in six innings, walked one and had no strikeouts.
