Schools

Congrats, Naubuc Elementary School!

The Connecticut Association of Schools named Naubuc Elementary as Connecticut's Outstanding Elementary School for 2012-13.

Talk about school pride! Naubuc Elementary School has been named Connecticut’s Outstanding Elementary School for 2012-13 by the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS).

According to Stephanie Ford, director of marketing for CAS, Naubuc was chosen from more than 480 eligible elementary schools in the state. Naubuc stood out as a school that demonstrates a wonderful climate and a sincere sense of family, she said.

"We couldn't be more excited!” said Naubuc Principal Michael Litke. “Naubuc School is truly a special place, and we are greatly honored.”

Criteria for the award included:

  • An educational program conducive to the needs of all students
  • Student opportunities that go beyond the typical school day
  • Educational programs that are consistently reviewed and improved
  • An atmosphere that welcomes participation from all constituencies
  • An active role in the community
  • Strong parent-school involvement

Naubuc fulfilled all the criteria in numerous ways, Ford said. Teachers talk openly about making a difference for children, putting students' needs first and taking the more difficult road if it means impacting a child’s success. Teachers and staff share the common goal of providing a safe and positive learning environment where all students feel protected from ridicule and free to take risks.

School pride and a strong sense of family are also evident at Naubuc, Ford added. This is reflected in the school's theme: “A Circle of Community, Making a World of Difference."

Just as impressive, Ford maintained, is the collaborative approach to meeting the academic needs of the students, the use of assessment to drive instruction, and the many opportunities for students to get involved and explore their own unique gifts and talents.

“Throughout the application process it has been a privilege to highlight all that our staff and community do for our students and school,” Litke said. “I believe they are truly a great example of all that is good in public education."

Naubuc Elementary School will receive the award at the CAS Recognition of Excellence Celebration on November 27, 2012, at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington.
